COURAGE TO WITNESS TO CHRIST
Ephesians 1:15–23; Luke 12:8–12
Theme: Knowing Christ, trusting His power, and courageously witnessing to Him.
Today,
the Word of God invites us to deepen our faith in Jesus Christ and to
become courageous witnesses to His presence in our lives. In the first
reading, St. Paul prays that God may grant the Ephesians the spirit of
wisdom and revelation so that they may know Him better. He also prays
that the eyes of their hearts may be enlightened to understand the hope
to which God has called them (Ephesians 1:17–18).
This prayer reminds
us that Christianity is more than knowing about God; it is about
knowing God personally, trusting His promises, and allowing His grace to
transform our lives. Many Christians know the Scriptures, attend
church, and participate in religious activities, yet sometimes struggle
to recognize God's presence in moments of suffering, uncertainty, and
disappointment. We need the Holy Spirit to open our hearts and
strengthen our faith.
St. Paul further reminds us of the immeasurable
greatness of God's power, revealed in the resurrection of Jesus Christ
and His exaltation above every authority and dominion. This means that
no challenge, fear, or difficulty is greater than the power of God.
When life becomes difficult, let us remember that Christ is risen,
victorious, and the head of the Church. Our hope rests not in human
strength but in His unfailing power.
In the Gospel, Jesus declares:
“Everyone who acknowledges Me before others, the Son of Man also will
acknowledge before the angels of God” (Luke 12:8). These words
challenge us to profess our faith not only with our lips but also
through our actions. It is easy to identify as Christians in church,
but do we acknowledge Christ in our homes, workplaces, schools, and
communities? Do our words and actions reflect His love, justice,
forgiveness, and compassion?
Jesus also promises that the Holy Spirit
will teach His disciples what they should say when they face
opposition. Therefore, we must not allow fear to silence our witness.
The same Spirit who strengthened the apostles is at work in us today,
giving us wisdom and courage to stand for the truth.
Let us pray for
enlightened hearts, unwavering faith, and the courage to proclaim Christ
in every circumstance. May we recognize His power, trust His Spirit,
and live as faithful witnesses to His Gospel.
Let us pray: Lord Jesus, open the eyes of our hearts, strengthen our faith, and fill us with the Holy Spirit. Give us courage to acknowledge You in our words and deeds, today and always. Amen.
